Essential Songs: Canons by Jeremy Enigk

jeremyenigk

It struck me that as much as we talk about the former singer from Sunny Day Real Estate, Jeremy Enigk, that we hardly show you anything about him.  This is a special guys with a lot to say, so hopefully you will be seeing a lot from him in this series over the next few weeks. This song is a haunting little number from his last album, Missing Link, that seems to almost predate the greatness of his latest, OK Bear.

This song is about Jeremy’s inability to kick his night person life style, and missing most of the day as a consequence. Does this night owl mentality seem to make him sad? Do you think that you miss thing when you don’t follow the sleeping habits of the rest of of populous?

Canons By Jeremy Enigk Jeremy Enigk - The Missing Link - Canons

Threw myself, on the floor
Chasing time, at the door
Half-past nine
Self-control
Place your own heart, on the door

Night will mourn and I’m sleeping on the better debt of day
Like the rising off
They won’t need me till tomorrow
Night that claims the sky forever dreams of a better day

Half-past nine, rise at four
Tracing time after all
Casting iron,
Self-control
Place your own heart
At the goal

Night will mourn and i’m sleeping on the better debt of day
Like the rising off
They won’t need me till tomorrow
Night that claims the sky
Forever dreams of a better day
Say you’ll be around
