Free Album Download:Freddie Bruno-Bruce Lee Mixtape

Posted by ian On September - 30 - 2009

freddie-bruno-bruce-lee-mixtape

Alright, so even if you dont like Hip-Hop, or DJ mixtapes, or just this type of music in general, you have to admit that this is pretty cool. Freddie Bruno is one of the components of the Hip-Hop collective known as Deepspace5. They have been around forever, and along with Bruno, the group consists of such heavy hitters as Playdough, Mars Ill, and Listener. The Bruce Lee Mixtape is Freddie Bruno taking old, B fighting movies, sampling dialogue and even some of the music, and then creating some heavy hitting Hip-Hop beats around them. The whole mixtape has a Afro Samurai fell to it, and the songs are strong enough to stand on their own even if lyrics don’t play a part.

So here is what you do with this. Next time you have party, make sure that The Bruce Lee Mixtape makes its way into the music mix around the midway point. Not only will the beats breather new life into your little party, but everyone will think you are so quirky because of all the old movie clips. There, Freddie Bruno and I just saved your lame party….

For fans of: MF Doom, DJ Shadow, Deepspace5, RedCloud

The amazing indie folk band known as The Snake, The Cross, The Crown posted plans to release a documentary chronicling the recording of their last album and the tour that soon followed it. Cool stuff…

Dear Future is now a trio after the departure of two of their core members following their recent tour with The Rocketboys.

Hardcore band Alcina has once again become label homeless, after parting ways with Real Hope Records. This also means that their latest album, which was slated for a October, 2009 release date, will now be delayed…

Run Kid Run are writing and recording, as are As I Lay Dying…

Since we always like to keep you up to date with our friends over at White Collar Sideshow, they recently posted a blog detailing the adventures they endured this summer, along with several television shows that they did tapings with. Read White Collar Sideshow update.

Free MP3 Album Download:The B.Reith EP

Posted by ian On September - 25 - 2009

the b.reith ep

So I feel kind of bad for giving you a free download this week that you could only get for two days, so here is my compromise.  B.Reith is….well, B.Reith is kind a weird.  Don’t let that picture fool you, this dude is hip-hop.  Obviously not gangsta or anything, think more party rap in the vain of KJ-52 and tobyMac.  In fact tobyMac has taken this guy under his wing the last few years, and B.Reith just released a new album through Gotee earlier this week.

As far as I can tell, these tracks are pretty recent, so they will go perfectly with your recent copy of Now Is Not Forever.  This EP is a really good way to meet a new up and coming superstar…

For fans of: KJ-52, tobyMac

Now, this is AmazonMP3, so you have to download this little MP3 program from them, but dont worry, it is free, easy to use, and you can convert  the tracks over your iTunes or Zune (uck) jukeboxes with no problems.

Voices Of The Underground2 Pt.6

Posted by ian On September - 24 - 2009

votu2logo-copy2

Voices Of The Underground is a series that seeks to explore one question from many different angles. Every week, we will ask one question of many of your favorite music artists. We will post their responses below, and what you will find is that there is never truly one answer to every question, but instead a whole world of ideas that come from simple matters of taste, to deep held beliefs. Our hope is that through this series you are able to see past the promo pictures and the stage persona, and get to know the hearts of believers who are creating music every day.

Need to catch up?
Read Pt.1-What do you love about music?
Read Pt.2- What was your first musical experience?
Read Pt.3-What is your favorite/ultimate song?
Read Pt.4-What is the best live show you have ever seen?
Read Pt.5-If you hadn’t gotten into music, what would see yourself doing as a job?

In our world, a declaration of faith can be dangerous. In Biblical times, to declare what you believe in public may have resulted in server persecution and even death. In our modern and more sophisticated times, the danger has shifted from physical harm to social exile. Declaring one God in a room of people who want to believe that there are many most times will result in being labeled “narrow minded” or “intolerant”. The fact is that Christ IS the only way to Heaven, but since society refuses to embrace any absolute truths any more, it is rare that people ask the question anymore. Because the question is never asked, many don’t get to talk about it anymore. Well, we aren’t really concerned with society…

Who is Jesus Christ to you?

the-chariot-copy
Jesus is truly my savior. He saved me from myself. Not only from eternal Damnation but, from myself. He saved me from having to live a useless life. Everything I do, now has been given purpose. Every person I meet is a divine appointment. He gives me peace beyond all understanding, he provides for my needs. He is my savior.

bodies-of-water-copy
Son of God.

redemption-copy
Christ is everything. All that I do, think, feel filters through my relationship with and the saving grace of Christ.

dignan-copy
He is my savior.

the-glorious-unseen-copy
He is unconditional love. He is the one who knows the direction for my life – He is the one who has laid out a plan for me. He usually doesn’t show me his plan way far in advance though. But, that’s probably better for me. He’s the one I just have to trust and follow – and know that his plan is greater then anything I can come up with. It is very comforting to know this, cause things happen is life that cause you and I to question whether or not we’re on the right path. If we come to understand that his plan for us is perfect – then we know we can just pick up where we are and seek to follow him – and He will bring us into our calling…

a-hope-for-home-votu2-copy1
Theologically, Jesus is the prophesized messiah, and God incarnate, who came as human flesh to be tempted and live the same life all of us live as humans in order to bring the good news of salvation and offer us eternal life with Him. What that means to me is something I’ve always honestly struggled with. I really grow weary of hearing bumper sticker slogans like “its not a religion, its a relationship!” Or sermons that just focus on how cool Jesus is, and just how great that makes us FEEL. Christ calls us to all live our lives as close to the way he did, to in effect, be Jesus to people who don’t know the real one. I don’t think enough people take that to heart, and just focus on how much Jesus is kind of like, insurance for when you’re a jerk. That way you don’t have to do step out of your comfort zone and enact real change. I think Christ calls us to be above that and actually strive to be “little Christs”, which is a pretty big responsibility in this world.

whitecollarsideshowt-copy
Someone who found my heart, changed my life and challenges me every day to show other people that no matter what circumstance they’re in–that through HIM, they can find true life.

preson-phillips-copy
He is the Second Adam (as Paul calls Him). In Matthew, He is the Messiah. In Leviticus 16, He is the sacrificial lamb… once and for all.
He is the only one that can turn this sinking ship around. He is the one who will separate the sheep from the goats, and He is the only one who can tell which is which.
His ways are difficult to follow. His sacrifice was unfathomable. His standards are unreachable. His grace is unfathomable, but readily available… and if you follow Him now, then you will follow Him forever.
He owes us nothing, but has given us everything…. yet He loves us even though we often act like He owes us something for our performance. We are pitiful people and He is NOT in our debt.

yours-for-mine-copy
Jesus Christ, and his work on the cross, is everything to me. I’ve been given such a beautiful gift of life only by the grace and mercy of Jesus. He is my savior, my redeemer, and my personal friend. I pray that everything I do can, in some way, bring glory to Him.

venia-copy
Jesus Christ is my Savior. The Son of God who died for my sins.

love-begotten-copy
Unconditional love, and acceptance. A friend who is always there. My Lord and Savior.

mychildren-mybride-copy
Someone I can look up to, like a Father. He is someone I can always count on to be there for me for anything. A savior.

whitecollarsideshowv-copy1
My love. My favorite person. My Strength.

wonder-copy
He’s my reason for living. He’s the son of the Most High. He’s my healer from cancer at age 2. He’s my daily provider. He’s my strength. He’s my guide. He’s my Lord and Savior. He is love.

thousand-foot-krutch-fm-static-copy
My Father. My Saviour. My Friend.

future-of-forestry-copy
He’s the guy I’ve known all my life and that I’m trying to get to know every day. He’s become a LOT more personal in the last year. Someone who isn’t just there, but actually speaks to me.

the letter black sarah copy
My savior, my friend, my dad, the only one I can go to all the time no matter what. He took me out of the garbage in my life and gave me a new life.

gileah-and-the-ghost-train-votu2-copy2
The Valley of Vision, a book of Puritan prayers, says: “In a world of changeable things, Christ and His word alone remain unshaken.” Hallelujah for that.

Death entered the world through one man, Adam, and until Christ was born no man lived a sinless life. Jesus Christ suffered in grievous agony before He died on the cross. One of my favorite hymns asks the question:
Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon Thee?
Alas, my treason, Jesus, hath undone Thee.
‘Twas I, Lord Jesus, I it was denied Thee:
I crucified Thee.

He suffered to pay the price for my sin. I deserve death; but Jesus died for me instead. And then for the most amazing part of the story- Jesus rose from the dead! You and I cannot defeat death; but Jesus did. Hallelujah for that, most certainly!

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust,
that He might bring us to God…” I Peter 3:18

Headlines

A few weeks ago we announced that folk rock icon Jennifer Knapp has resurfaced after three years of seemingly self imposed exile. This week, Knapp herself addressed her return to music and explained her absence in a letter addressed to her fans posted on her website. Read letter from Jennifer Knapp.

Paramore‘s first album, All We Know Is Falling, was certified Gold this last week with over 50,000 units sold. Congrats kids!

Apparently, pop rock band Kids In The Way are getting back together. Don’t believe me? Read the blog Run Kid Run just posted.

Dance rock band Queen’s Club has signed on with Tooth & Nail Records. Interesting
selection for sure…

Following the Insyderz‘s footsteps, both Five Iron Frenzy and The OC Supertones have eluded through various contacts that reunions and DVDs in the near future…

Long time Yours For Mine member Jonathan has decided to leave the band.

New Zealand moshcore band Saving Grace has signed with Strike First Records.  Congrats to all involved….

An interview with Micah from Oh, Sleeper was posted over at Lambgoat.com. Take my advice though, read the interview with Oh, Sleeper, but do NOT read the comments anywhere on that website. Lambgoat has got some borderline sociopaths for readers.

The Day Of has signed with Southpawl Records.

A cool little interview with Bradley Hathaway was posted over at Blue Indian. Read Bradley Hathaway interview.

Since October, Stand Your Ground, and Holding Onto Hope are all in the studio right now (or heading there very soon) making some news tunes for YOU.

Voices Of The Underground2 Pt.5

Posted by ian On September - 17 - 2009

votu2logo-copy2

It is rare in this day and age that a musician or a band can really make a living off of playing music. With the music industry swinging the way it is and the economy in the dumps, most up and coming music is made by people who are either splitting their time between and “real” job and their music career, or they simple live like a collage student off of family donations, show garuntees, and any free food they can get their hands on. This week will be the final week of the “getting to know you” potion of Voices of The Underground2, so I thought it would be cool to what are artists would be doing (or are doing) when they are arnt making music.

Joining us this week is another member of Tooth & Nail Records newcomers The Letter Black. This time around it is lead vocalist Sarah, and both her and Mark will have new a new EP, entitled Breaking The Silence, due out at the end of the month.

If you hadn’t gotten into music, what would see yourself doing as a job?

the-glorious-unseen-copy
I would probably be doing finance / accounting work in some capacity. I have always loved numbers – I have always loved managing money. I imagine I would be doing something in that field. I have also loved working in the restaurant industry. I would possibly still bartend somewhere if I wasn’t doing music full-time.

yours-for-mine-copy
Unfortunately this question does not apply to me. I do not play music as a career. I would absolutely love to but It’s tough. Other than Yours For Mine though, I’m pretty involved with a collegiate ministry called Aletheia. It’s a college focused church movement with the goal of reaching college students around the nation (and the world) for Christ. Music is a big part of Aletheia as well so I get to do music through that outlet too. I think I’ll always be involved with music somehow.

preson-phillips-copy
I actually don’t have a “music career” per se’. I’m a Pastor. I pastor a church in Tampa called Watermark, and I write music for the church. They only reason people are hearing it is because Come&Live! Records approached me about putting it out.
Even if I wasn’t a musician I’d still be a preacher. I know it sounds weird, but I LOVE theology. I love to study it, preach it, wrestle over it, and debate it. God is huge, and there is nothing more that I would like to do than preach the Gospel.

venia-copy
I have a degree in graphic design, so if I wasn’t performing in Venia full time, I would most likely be working for a design firm or doing freelance work.

the-chariot-copy
This sounds crazy but when I was a kid all I wanted to be was a Professional Mascot. In high school I was a Tiger, in college I was Bobby the Bearcat, and one year into college I became the back up mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs, KC Wolf. When I go home from tour I usually pick up a few appearances as KC Wolf, so if you ever see a Chiefs game on television and see a big fat wolf on the side lines it just might be me..haha.

love-begotten-copy
Something lame…I’d probably be in school still, not too sure I still want to be a writer. Kind of.

whitecollarsideshowt-copy
If I quit being a “Musician-ary” I’ll just be a Missionary. Sold out for Christ for the rest of my life. Period.

mychildren-mybride-copy
Well, I didn’t want to to music that much as a career when I first started this when I was 17, I was full time college student, working towards my medical degree. As a matter of fact, I still am in college, I do online college, still working towards a career in medical. God had different plans for me though. If and when I am ever done with music, I am going straight back into college, maybe get a small job at Starbucks.

redemption-copy
I don’t even want to think about it! haha Seriously though, I would probably have an office job or being a designer making graphics for companies I don’t care too much about. That said, I fully recognize the privilege being in my position allows me and am grateful for it daily.

wonder-copy
Well, its not a career yet. Im still paying dues and working as a freelance graphic designer. Id still be in ministry though if not doing music.

bodies-of-water-copy
Portraiture, maybe dog portraiture. This is not a joke! I am an excellent draughtsman.

thousand-foot-krutch-fm-static-copy
I would either study “Sharks” in some form of marine biology, chase Tornados, or be involved with film.

a-hope-for-home-votu2-copy1
I would probably have stayed in school and done something in either history or theology. I’ve always had a strong passion for that and I think I will probably go back to school when the band is done. Not that I see that happening in the near future, but everything ends and I don’t see this market as having any real long term job security. That or write fiction.

the letter black sarah copy
I would totally be doing interior design. Its my second passion.

gileah-and-the-ghost-train-votu2-copy2
I’d be doing what I really do: homemaking. I’m a wife (to the very handsome Chris Taylor,) and a mother to Clara, 3, and Mercie, 8 months.

dignan-copy
Honestly music has been in my blood since I was a little kid. I really can’t think of anything else I’d want to do. I’m sure it would have been something with the arts.

Decided to go for something a little different today.  Austin Flores is a 17 year old folktronic singer/songwriter out of Florida.  His has an amazing grasp on interesting song structure and melody, along with a pretty advanced lyrical concept.  He wears his influences on his sleeve, but just about anybody who is in to the more modern “folk” solo artists can find something to love.  One song sounds like a sunny day version of John Mayer, other songs more resemble Postal Service and Derek Webb than pop.

Like most of our free downloads, this one is a little out there, but for the low price of nothing, it wont kill you to maybe possibly find your new favorite song.

For fans of Postal Service, Bright Eyes, Derek Webb, The Swell Season
