The Civil Wars at SXSW 2011

The Civil Wars SXSW 2011

So The Civil Wars made quite a splash at SXSW 2011.  They played two and three shows a day for the entire festival.  It is a good thing they did, because throngs of fans followed them from location to location.  Their official SWSW 2011 showcase was mobbed by industry insiders and was such a hot ticket the our press pass could not get us in.  However, one21music was fortunate enough to catch The Civil Wars at an outdoor party held in the parking lot of The Hotel San Jose.

The Civil Wars is the white hot, big buzz collaboration of Christian musician Joy Williams and John Paul White.  Sorry ladies despite the strong resemblance that is not Johnny Depp.  They ride their high, transcendent harmonies through songs about the dark backwoods, old time gospel raves and even a covers like Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and the traditional “You Are My Sunshine.”  Joy Williams lives-up to her given name.  She is one of the happiest people I have ever seen on stage.  The Civil Wars give off an old west traveling medicine show vibe to their music and their harmonies are transcendent.

We are so glad we ere able to see The Civil Wars at SXSW 2011.  Since you could not be there we would like to give you a taste as Joy and John performed a new song for us on that sunny day.
