A special treat this week with two free downloads.  On Wednesday highlighted free music from Mosquito Fleet. Today, we show you the way a a free download from A White Flag. The last week of September is a good week.

A White Flag is the acoustic worship project of pastor Tommy Green (also the vocalist of Sleeping Giant).

A White Flag is a collection of stripped down songs that came from being “truly connected and wrecked on His love and acceptance of me,” says Tommy Green, front man of hardcore act Sleeping Giant. While living with his two year old daughter and his parents during his divorce seven years ago, Tommy found himself in utter brokenness and isolated time with the Lord. He picked up his father’s guitar in a simple effort to express his thoughts and new-found joy in surrendering to Jesus.

Ok, so the key thing to remember is this stuff is really….raw. The ideas are raw, the messages are raw, and the execution is very raw. If you are looking for slick production and carefully crafted melodies, you need to look elsewhere. If you want honesty and brokenness in your worship, then Tommy definitely knows how to open his self up in his song writing. It may not be the most polished EP on the planet, but it might just be better because of that.

Progressive rock band Mosquito Fleet released a terrific EP Swings & Cloves in January of this year and then took a long hiatus this summer.  This week they announced their return with a new show in Marion, Illinois and a gift for all of us not in Marion, Illinois.  Mosquito Fleet is offering  free downloads of Swings & Cloves and their 2010 debut full length All Those Who Wander Are Not Lost. But you must hurry, because these terrific albums will only be available for free this week.

Swings & Cloves is a collection of progressive rock tunes that continues the band’s sophisticated journey through their faith.  The extended “Everything’s Different” explores doubt and confusion over 8:55 of emotional and emotive percussion, guitar solos and vocal choruses that builds to a grand crescendo. Swings & Cloves also includes a beautiful 7:00 version of “Come Thou Fount of Ev’ry Blessing”. After a rough start to their touring career in 2010, Mosquito Fleet used Swings & Cloves to experiment with a “pay what you want” model for their music.  This is beautiful rock music in the vein of Paper Route and Seabird.

The real gem here is Mosquito Fleet‘s full length debut, All Those Who Wander Are Not Lost. As far as we can tell, this album has never been available for free download.  All Those Who Wander Are Not Lost explores the faith transition from high school to college.  You know that period of time from when you were pressed to just accept your parents’ faith and fall in line to that time when everything you believed, accepted, and relied upon was challenged. A time when you were challenged to examine and develop what you believe.  You remember that time when you felt like you were wandering. Primary song writer Josh Yoshonis takes us through that period and shows us the light at the end of the journey.

Today’s free download is from a new band , A Minor Bird.  Well, they are new to us. These four guys actually came together in 2009 and released Where The River Breaks Free in 2010. However, we just discovered these guys today and I doubt many of you own this mini album. Frontman and man writer Kevin Embelton has constructed a set of songs that are complex, compelling and dynamic.  A Minor Bird deliver a set of songs with a clever interweaving of instruments and highly dramatic tonal and tempo changes.  Embelton’s high, thin voice delivers on the emotional depth of a believer who marvels at the richness of his relationship with God.
