Folk

Genre is defined by elements of what is referred to as traditional music. Traditionally, Folk music was an part of a people’s oral tradition used to spread the history and culture .  In the 20th century the music was used by common people to rally groups around causes such as the plight of workers, Civil Rights and war protest.  Songs are free form, usually open to experimentation and progression. Artists range from solo artists to large group bands. Folk has a strong vocal presence, and also creates strong lyrical narratives.
