Milwaukee based indie rock band, I’m Not a Pilot, began in the winter of 2008 and just released their first EP, notable among local Milwaukee bands, for its lack of guitars.  All songs are written and constructed around frontman Mark Glatzel's soaring vocals and intricate piano work. Peter Thomas, cellist in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, adds melodic and harmonic bursts of energy through his ‘guitar simulated’ electric cello playing. Matt Glatzel (bass) and Steve Vorass (drums) provide the driving rhythm that fuels the entire sound of the quartet. The music can best be described as something you’ve never heard before, encompassing a cross between Electro Pop and Rock N’ Roll mixed with Classical instruments like the cello.

“The result, captured on the group’s self-titled debut EP last year, evokes the skyscraping, Top 40 piano-pop of The Fray and Coldplay, as well as the more intimate, regal folk-pop of Sufjan Stevens,” according to a weekly music preview by Shepherd Express in the Spring of 2010. Bobby Tanzilo, Managing Editor and Music Critic for On.Milwaukee.com, writes "Wait Here" has a lovely melody and "Mausoleum" conjures both Queen and Keane, thanks to an almost baroque arrangement and vocals that recall Freddie Mercury and Tom Chaplin.”

In December 2009, I'm Not A Pilot signed with Branch Records, an independent record label based in Florida. I’m Not a Pilot has primarily performed shows in the mid-west including such cities as Milwaukee, Chicago, and Madison. Upcoming shows include a debut at Summerfest 2010 amongst others, and a Midwest tour promoting a full length CD.
