Free Download: Future of Forestry – Young Man Follow EP

I was super excited to stumble onto this free download while digging through Noistrade’s back stock this last weekend. Future In Forestry has been on the scene for quite a while now, offering a more progressive version of the pop rock that has been prevalent in the industry lately. Its atmospheric and driving; like a mix of Sleeping At Last, U2, and the lighter sides of Thrice. More incredible is that it is the work, primarily, of one man, Eric Owyoung.

There is rarely a song that simply fits within the typical ‘band sound’ of bass, drums, and guitars. The songs are composed with counteractive melodies and intricate rhythms that give them an ethereal quality. Orchestral elements such as strings, timpani, pipe organ, and taiko drum are only a few instruments that lend their voice to such a unique sound. “I consider myself more like a conductor rather than in a band,” says Eric Owyoung. “My classical background taught me not to look so much at the singularity of the musician, but at the bigger picture, the music ‘scape’ that is being created by a collaborative team.”

After a few years on a major label, Owyoung has been quietly releasing EPs that out shine most of the rock that is being played on the radio. This year, he released Young Man Follow EP, and has decided to give it away as a gift. Listen below, consider donating, and enjoy.

Free Download: B.Reith – How The Story Continues Mixtape Vol.1

B. Reith is one of those “dont judge an artist by his appearance” type guys. For the last several years he has been viewed as the new tobyMac in the CCM world, but that shadow never made him very comfortable. So about 2 years ago he broke from his record label and has been releasing his music on his own. The How The Story Continues Mixtape has been my favorite work to date from him, chanelling a little 80s style hip-hop and little John Reuben flavor for good measure. Add guest appearances from Lecrae, Theory Hazit, and Lisa Gungor and this is defiantly worth your attention. Check it below

Free Download: Loud Harp – Self-titled

Loud Harp is another stellar release from Come&Live!; a dreamy, atmospheric take on worship with Robbie Seay-esque vocals and solid lyrics. The story of Loud Harp is best told by…well, them:

Free Download: The Followers – Wounded Healer

The Followers‘ “Wounded Healer” is the first release for Deeper Well Records, a gospel collective that has been birthed out of Door of Hope Church in Portland Oregon. Songwriter Josh White (of Telecast) teamed up with Eric Earley (of Blitzen Trapper), and friends to create a 70′s infused worship experience. Mixing R&B, country, rock, and folk, “Wounded Healer” may draw one back to the days of the Jesus Movement, or push one forward into a new and exciting era of music for the church. We call it neo-gospel!

Its awesome! Think “70s hippie worship”. I hope this style of worship music catches on in a big way, but I think The Followers are going to be one of my new favorite bands….

Free Download: moral one – A Batch Of Ghosts: A Gungor Beat Tape

The explanation for this one is pretty simple

moral one (of Alert) heard Gungor‘s Ghosts Upon the Earth. moral one became obsessed with said record. He then sampled a song off the record for fun…he never stopped. The results are the 9 tracks and 25 some-odd non-stop minutes of liturgical post-rock-hip-hop infused music.”

So if you havent heard Ghosts Upon The Earth yet, well, where have you been? Go download that, then download this get ready to go deep!

Free Download: Ascend The Hill-O Ransomed Son

This is Ascend The Hill‘s 3rd album. Simply put it is the best thing they have ever done, and in my mind a strong contender for album of the year. Here is a little something I wrote about it in an article Im working on:

As I am writing this right now, am I listening (for the first time) to Ascend The Hill‘s latest album, O Ransomed Son. The band exists in the “genre” of worship music, or music that is supposed to inspire a state of worship and praise through song. The “genre” is well known in the church, and it takes many forms. Most people remember the choir on Sunday mornings, but in the last 20 or years most praise music involves full bands or acoustic guitars. If you attend a contemporary church, you know what I am talking about. The thing is, O Ransomed Son doesn’t really SOUND like a “worship” record. The song structures are not easy to follow, and the drumming is relentless. The vocals are raw, sometimes yelled more than sung, and most songs are lyrically longer than 5 Power-Point slides. Yes, they do a hymn, but they also have a song featuring the singer from Thrice. On a “worship” album. Doesn’t all of that seem strange to you?

Free Download: Son Lux- BreakThru Radio Session

It is rare that a artist Son Lux comes along. Every since we hear about him a little over 3 years ago, he has consistently been one of our favorite artists in the industry today. Last year, he released his latest masterpiece called We Are Rising, which he wrote and recorded in 30 days. The result was a mix of electronica, jazz, indie folk, contemplation, and desperation. It is unlike anything and very, very good.

Recently Son Lox performed some of the songs off of We Are Rising for Break Thru Radio, and then decided to give the session recording away for free. This a great intro to Son Lux if you have never heard him before, so we suggest watching the video and downloading the album below.

More like we command you to……….can we do that?

Free Music: See The Light- Tepid

So with all this American Idol talk, I thought it would be nice to tip the scales on the other side with a little full-tilt metal assault.

This isnt the first time we have had See The Light on our free download posts, currently they are the one of the only metal/hardcore bands on Come&Live!, and man they have grown up alot since their last release. They are more brutal, more honest, and more technical than ever, showing maturity far beyond their years. Tepid is just a great metalcore album that you need.

Watch the video below, and the go download so the headbangs can begin!
