Originally called The Becoming Christians music artist We Are The Becoming landed on Tooth & Nail in 2007, out virtually nowhere and delivered the debut The Becoming,Vol. 1 in 2008. There are bands that slave away year after year, song after song, pouring their hearts into their songs, and their gas tanks, as they criss cross the country waiting for someone to care. Then there are bands, like The Becoming, that suddenly appear, fully formed and ready to remind us why we love rock and roll. As if crafted in another world and delivered to rescue us from our hyphenated-rock-doldrums, possibly the perfect blend of melody, mood and mystique.
Justin Carpenter, the keyboard/programmer gives the group its creative edge layering whirling synth with distorted guitars, grooving choruses and inventive string/choir section. Lead Singer Caleb Owens puts forward a smooth rock vocal that controls the wildly differing styles of We Are The Becoming's songs.
Though all the guys in We Are The Becoming look pretty rough, their lyrics prove that their faith is not only tattooed all over their bodies, but also on their hearts. "Your Love," for example, declares their death to sin and new life in Christ: "Now they sing a requiem, a funeral in my name/It's a haunting thing to hear, if it were not for Your grace."
